Fall means it's time to start talking football. The UNLV Rebels kick off their season this weekend against Utah State. It's been over two decades since UNLV beat Utah State in Las Vegas. It's been five straight losses since 1987.
The game's a rematch of last season's opener which the Rebels won in Logan. Travis Dixon was the QB that day. Tomorrow, the Omar Clayton era begins.
"I would definitely say that's a plus. Travis played well against them and I expect Omar to play well against them and I think we've got a lot of offense in right now. I think we have a good plan and I'm excited about what we have planned for the game Saturday night," said Coach Mike Sanford.
Eyewitness Sports visited with some students on campus, and some Rebels are excited and some who didn't have a clue.
UNLV enters its 40th year of fielding a football team - a far cry from those who's been playing for over 100 years.
Safe but sad to say there won't be a student body right pilgrimage to Sam Boyd Stadium Saturday for many reasons.
It's the beginning of the semester and students are still finding their place, and faculty members wouldn't dream of football right now.
Everywhere you look, there are Rebel signs. Pride is evident, but getting the word out needs work. So maybe Thursday night's premier night on campus will spark interest in the Rebels program.
