A decomposing body was found dumped in Lee Canyon near Mount Charleston Saturday morning. At this point police are treating this as a suspicious death. They can't say for sure if the woman was murdered, but they say, judging by her clothing, she was not a hiker and was likely purposely dumped in the desert.
Working against time and their environment, investigators fought off high temperatures and decomposition to try and solve a mystery; why was a woman's body left beside a popular off roading trail?
Police say they believe the woman's body may have been there for a few days or more. They say several things are making them lean towards thinking she was the victim of foul play.
A man four-wheeling along a forest service road discovered the woman's body.
Investigators say their best guess on the woman's age is between 20 to 30 years old. She was wearing white pants with a blue shirt and is African-American. The coroner's office will begin trying to identify her on Monday and investigators hope that by knowing who she is, it might help them piece together what happened to her.
Investigators say the woman's body was actually not hidden--and not far off the road. If you know any thing about this woman or saw something suspicious around Kyle Canyon road you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
