21 Homeless As Fire Damages Old Apartment Building

Updated:

A three-alarm fire at the Rancho Verde Apartments on Martin Luther King and US95 left 21 people homeless Saturday morning.  All tenants escaped without injury.

The blaze heavily damaged four units, four more received moderate damage and three had minor damage.

Fire investigators think the blaze started in the attic or behind the walls of the units in piping used to route plumbing and electrical wiring.  An occupant told firemen she turned on a light switch and heard a loud pop followed by flames coming out of the light fixture.

It took Las Vegas firefighters more than 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

Rancho Verde Apartments Managers were working with the Red Cross to help those displaced find shelter.
