With union workers ready to strike, AMR says it wants to work out a contract with the correct union.
American Medical Response General Manager John Wilson says the problem developed when the Service Employees International Union tried to switch affiliation without a vote.
"This really isn't about the union versus the company, this is about our employees. It is about our employees -- the entire body of the 361 individuals and they should have a say in who represents them," he said.
The union says the company is trying to break the union. AMR filed an injunction to prevent the strike and speed up negotiations.
The National Labor Board is expected to decide what to do by the end of the week.
