Driver killed in Vegas Dr. crash was not wearing a seatbelt

LAS VEGAS - Metro is investigating a deadly crash that happened Sunday around 2:55 a.m. on Vegas Drive near Robin Street.

Metro officers found a maroon Chevrolet SUV flipped over and the driver ejected from the car near the intersection.

Investigators said the Chevrolet was heading westbound on Vegas Drive when the 56-year-old driver hit a raised median, crossed the eastbound lanes and hit a short wall.

The SUV flipped and the driver who was not wearing his seatbelt was thrown from the vehicle. Medical responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Police believe the driver was driving at a high rate of speed, likely served to avoid a left turning vehicle and lost control.

This is the 12th traffic related fatality in the LMPD's jurisdiction for 2017.
