1 person badly hurt in fire near Torrey Pines and Alta

LAS VEGAS - One person was seriously burned in a fire Friday, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said.

According to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, the fire at 324 Crestline Drive near S. Torrey Pines and Alta drives started around 2:50 p.m. in a shed behind a house.  It was a neighbor who saw the fire, firefighters said.

The neighbor then ran and knocked on the front door and told the man about the flames.  Las Vegas Fire said the man who lived in the home tried to put the fire out, but then a neighbor heard a pop before hearing the man scream.

Other residents in the neighborhood brought the badly burned man out to the streets as they waited for paramedics to arrive.  The man suffered critical injuries on his neck, firefighters said.  He was taken to University Medical Center.

There was some extension of the fire to the attic, but for the most part, the fire was knocked down quickly.

The cause of the fire wasn't released.
