18-year-old dies while swimming in Lake Mead

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - An 18-year-old boy died Saturday while swimming at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.


Authorities at the park say around 4 p.m. on June 17, Lake Mead Interagency Communication Center received a call about the teen who disappeared while swimming at Gregg's Hideout on Lake Mead between 2-3 p.m.

National Park Service rangers responded by boat and land in search of the victim. The Bull Head City Dive Team was called in the following morning to search for the teen. The 18-year-old was found on June 18 around 10:18 a.m. near the point where he was last seen.

According to park authorities, the teen wasn't wearing a life jacket.

The incident is under investigation. The Mohave County Medical Examiner release the identify the victim, along with the cause of death at a later date.
