Affordable Green Home Unveiled in Henderson

HENDERSON -- The Las Vegas Chapter of Habitat for Humanity unveiled two prototype homes Tuesday that are not only affordable but also green.

The homes were built based on Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) criteria which will result in lower energy bills and higher resale value for the families.

Habitat for Humanity builds homes around the county for working families that earn less than 80 percent of the area median income. The homes will be sold at no profit with a no interest mortgage.

The homes were built with financial support from MGM Mirage Voice Foundation and the Lincy Foundation. Local building suppliers also donated materials. Even the wood shop at Sierra Vista High School pitched in by building the kitchen cabinets.
