Aircraft crash reported near Nellis AFB

LAS VEGAS - Nellis Air Force Base reports a civilian contractor aircraft crashed in the northeast part of the valley Thursday morning.

The crash happened near Sloan Lane and N. Las Vegas Boulevard at approximately 7:40 a.m.

Nellis Air Force Base officials say the pilot works for Draken International and has more than two decades of fighter pilot experience and had just finished a combat training exercise that lasts around an hour and a half when he self-ejected from the A-4 Skyhawk aircraft.

According to retired Lt. Col. Scott Poteet, the pilot was returning to the base when he crashed. The pilot did suffer minor injuries and was being treated at the hospital on Nellis AFB.

Draken pilots are civilian contractors who role-play with the trainees by pretending to be enemy pilots.
