Airport Traffic Down 2 Percent in Vegas in Sept.

LAS VEGAS -- Airport officials say 2 percent fewer passengers used McCarran International Airport in September compared with the same month in 2009.

The Las Vegas airport reported Tuesday that fewer than 3.3 million passengers arrived and departed from the tourist destination's primary airline hub.

A monthly report by the airport said 29.9 million people flew in and out during the first nine months of 2010. That was down 2.4 percent compared with first nine months of 2009.

Two of the five largest airlines serving McCarran carried fewer passengers in September than the same month last year. U.S. Airways served half as many customers, while United reported a nearly 5 percent drop.

Southwest saw traffic increase less than 1 percent.
