LAS VEGAS -- During the First Friday art festival in downtown Las Vegas, attendees can expect an out-of-this-world experience.
A special nine-month show themed "Atomic Vegas" is being unveiled at Blackbird Studios on S. Commerce Street.
Forty artists have contributed their interpretations of the atomic testing program and its integration into everyday life in Las Vegas.
A secondary theme looks at Area 51 and extraterrestrial beings -- including creative depictions of flying saucers and little green men at the secretive military base.
"This is our Area 51 show," said Gina Quaranto, the studio's owner. "Many artists and their takes on aliens (are on display)."
Many of the artists did deep research into the extraterrestrial mystery.
Artist Tom Umholtz called his series "Project Majestic," named for a rumored classified program.
The show opens at 6 p.m. The studio is on the outer edge of the Las Vegas Arts District.
