Animal Foundation full, urge postponing pet drop-offs

LAS VEGAS — The Animal Foundation announced Tuesday morning it is at capacity and are urging people in Las Vegas to postpone any pet drop-offs at the shelter until this weekend.

The agency says its adoption centers and lost and found areas are full.

"Our kennels are full, and we are asking our community, if at all possible, to postpone bringing animals to our facility until this weekend," said Christine Robinson, executive director for The Animal Foundation. "We are doing everything possible to save as many lives as we can, and if you can hold on to any animal you find or wish to surrender for just a few days, it will make a tremendous difference in our efforts to solve this challenge."

However, the Animal Foundation said they "will continue to accept animals and will never turn a lost, unwanted or an abandoned animal away."

In the meantime, if you find a stray pet, the Animal Foundation offers the following tips:

1. Report all found animals to Animal Control (legally required per jurisdiction ordinances).

2. If a pet is wearing visible identification, contact the phone numbers listed.

3. Take the pet to your veterinary hospital to have it scanned for a microchip; if a registered chip is found, the microchip company can help you contact the owner.

4. Hang posters in the area where the pet was found, post found pet descriptions on sites like Craigslist, and share found pet information with The Animal Foundation's Lost & Found coordinator (found@animalfoundation.com).

ADOPTION SPECIALS ALSO EXTENDED

In addition, the Animal Foundation announced Tuesday they are extending its 'Dog and Cat Days of Summer' adoption special through Aug. 31. Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes of all ages are available for $40, dogs 6-months for all other breeds are 50 percent off adoption fees, and cats and kittens are available for $15.

To view adoptable animals, you can visit them at the Campus Adoption Center, 655 N. Mojave Rd., Las Vegas and PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center, 286 W. Lake Mead Pkwy, Henderson. For more information, visit their website or call 702-384-3333, ext. 131.
