Apartment Kitchen Fire Sends Two People to Hospital

LAS VEGAS -- At approximately 11:00 p.m. on Saturday night, Las Vegas firefighters responded to an apartment fire at 2740 E. Bonanza Road.

Fire investigators arrived on scene and saw heavy smoke and a man hanging from a second floor window. The man was rescued by firefighters and transported to UMC with first and second degree burns to head as well as smoke inhalation.

The man told fire investigators he was sleeping and woke up to his kitchen on fire. He tried to put it out but as the fire grew larger he had to escape.

A neighbor tried helping the man and attempted to enter the apartment to help. He was also taken to UMC with smoke inhalation.

Investigators said the cause of the fire was due to a stove burner being left on with food in a pan. They are ruling it accidental.

The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage.
