Armagosa Opera House ballerina Marta Becket dies

LAS VEGAS - Marta Becket performed as a one-woman show for 40 years at the Armagosa Opera House in Death Valley Junction, California.

She was 92.

Her last performance was in 2012.

The classically trained New York ballerina was on a cross-country drive when she came upon the abandoned opera house in the late 1960's and decided to stay.

Armagosa was basically a ghost town with a population of less than a dozen people.

Her first performance was 1968 and from that day on, she performed every Friday, Saturday and Monday. Some nights, she had an audience. Some nights, there was no audience, but she still performed.

She was inspired to paint an audience on the walls and angels on the ceiling.

She said it was always her dream to have her own stage and she was inspired by the desert.
