Arrests made in brutal beating of 66-year-old woman

LAS VEGAS - Two people have been arrested in the severe beating of a 66-year-old woman on April 9, Metro Police said.

Issac Almaguer, 37, is facing charges of battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm, conspiracy, burglary and violating his parole. He remains in Clark County Detention Center.

Jamie Olivas, 39, faces a charge of conspiracy for driving Almaguer to the scene of the alleged crime.

Family members say Sue Helfin answered her front door and a man hit her across the face with what appeared to be a crowbar. Her nose and cheekbones were shattered, said Rebecca Heflin, her daughter. Heflin is expected to have a long recovery due to her injuries.

According to his arrest report, Almaguer went to Heflin's home looking for her grandson who had been dating his girlfriend, Jamie Olivas, while he was in prison.

Neighbors and the grandson witnessed Alamguer leave the scene in Olivas' car, the report said.
