Attack in New York has people concerned about pedestrian safety in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - In the wake of the attack in New York, new concerns here in Las Vegas about pedestrian safety. Robert Vischer is visiting from Michigan and says, "this would be the perfect place for somebody to target a big crowd."

Almost 2 years ago, Lakeisha Holloway drove her car into a crowd of pedestrians in front of the Paris Hotel and Casino. 1 person was killed and more than 30 were injured. Craig Smith is visiting from Washington D.C. and says, "if people wake up with those feelings why dont they take themselves out? That's how i truly feel."  Smith is visiting from the east coast. He says he was devasted when he learned about the attack that left 8 dead in Manhattan.

Smith says, "it's horrible. We go from a situation at Mandalay Bay to New York. I guess they're just going from coast to coast." Vischer says, "a lot of people on the sidewalks and there's nothing between the streets and the sidewalks."

Clark County is taking action to protect pedestrians. Earlier this October, crews started construction to install 700 steel posts called bollards throughout the strip starting the project in front of the Mirage. Vischer says, "it'd be something to keep or at least slow down or take some of the energy out of a vehicle that's intentionally or not intentionally trying to cross over."

Smith says, "we can't compete with cars. I think that's a good idea anything to protect pedestrians."
