Attorney Barry Levinson Accused of Stealing from Clients

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas attorney Barry Levinson was arraigned Tuesday in Las Vegas Justice Court on four counts of theft. He is accused of stealing $1 million from his clients over a five-year period.

Levinson, who is currently suspended from practicing law, allegedly took personal injury settlements due to his clients.

"The money would generally be converted to office expenses or personal use and clients would not be paid," according to Robert Whiteley, a detective with Metro Police. "Levinson engaged in a "Ponzi" scheme in the sense that he would use money from current clients to pay partial settlements of previous clients."

Levinson is also charged in another criminal case involving an HOA investigation where he is charged with conspiracy and mail fraud in a scheme to enlist straw buyers to purchase condominium units and then rig HOA boards to file construction defect lawsuits.
