Ax-wielding man shot and killed by police, suspect identified

LAS VEGAS - Metro police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in the death of an ax-wielding man in the Las Vegas Valley's east side.

The Clark County Coroners Office identified the man as 62-year-old Steven Price of Las Vegas.

Officers said they responded to a disturbance call Saturday night around 11p.m. at a residence on the 5200 block of Shreve Avenue near Lake Mead and Nellis boulevards.

Officers said a security guard called the police and said Price was attacking him with a shovel.

According to investigators, officers commanded Price to drop the two axes he was wielding.

When officers say Price refused, two officers opened fire. One officer fired less lethal rounds from a shotgun and another officer fired regular rounds from a handgun, police said.

Price was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene, according to police.

The incident marks the 5th officer involved shooting for LVMPD of 2017.
