LAS VEGAS -- About 80 people showed up at University Medical Center for a blood drive Monday.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and United Blood Services joined forces so people who wanted to, could donate in honor of Officer Mike Madland. Madland was wounded in a shooting on March 23, following a pursuit and shootout. Monday's blood drive started at 7 a.m. and continued until 5 p.m.

"I came out here to support our police officers whoa re the last line of defense between us and the bad guys," said Dave Wadsworth, who came to donate. "I just think it's a noble cause to do, and I want to try to help the officer and his family out."

Blood donations will continue on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor of Las Vegas City Hall. No appointment is necessary.
