Body of Missing Henderson Teen Found

BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- What started out to be a hopeful day for family and friends of Shane McNeil turned tragic when the teen's body was discovered after he disappeared while hiking.

The Henderson teen's body was discovered around 11:30 a.m. near Boy Scout Canyon near Lake Mead. McNeil was reported missing late Saturday night after he went for a hike south of Hoover Dam along the Colorado River.

Earlier in the day, search crews had reported that they found tracks believed to belong to McNeil within one mile of where he sent his last text message. His family remained hopeful he would be found alive.

"You can only imagine the personal torment this woman has gone through having her young son out there," said Shane McNeil, Shane's uncle.

McNeil had moved to Nevada from the East Coast in July and was used to hiking but not in Nevada terrain.

"No mountains, we live in flat lands, basically woods, trees, stuff like that, but nothing to this degree of difficulty," said McNeil.

Search and rescue crews had worked for three days to find the missing teen. McNeil attended Foothills High School.
