Bonanza students recognize first responders

LAS VEGAS - Messages of love and support continue to pour into the Las Vegas valley.

Students at Bonanza High School are using their skills to show their gratitude to first responders. Some students have been coming in coming in before class and after school, volunteering their time to remind the community that we are #VegasStrong.

Students like Damien Knight are using all the tools they have to make the world a little better.

"I think personally, I could do more but I think this is my way of saying thank you to those who did help," he said.

Plaques are being designed, etched, personalized and painted by Knight and his wood shop classmates.

They want first responders who risked their lives on Oct. 1 to know their efforts were appreciated.

"They chose to come down and help out and they didn't have to," Knight said.

When the messages are hung and seen by first responders, Mason King wants them to know this.

"Someone appreciates them. That someone actually appreciates what they do and not just they're doing a job just to do it," He said.

With each plaque, the students hope to strengthen their community.

"Seeing how everybody comes down and helps out, there's still good, even with all the bad that goes around," Knight said.

The plaques will be delivered starting within the next week.
