Brady Caipa's Cause of Death Released

HENDERSON, Nev.  -- Weeks after hundreds gathered at Bishop Gorman to remember 17-year-old Brady Caipa, the Clark County Coroner's Office released his official cause of death. The report says the high school senior died from asphyxia and acute alcohol intoxication.

Caipa was found dead at the Henderson home of Dr. Michael Crovetti on Oct. 30 after partying and drinking with friend's the night before. Crovetti released a statement after the death saying he was not aware of any party in his home on that night and no kids were provided with alcohol.

"When you have too much alcohol in your system, what happens is you depress your brain function and you don't swallow very well," said Sunrise Hospital Emergency Room Dr. Charlie Wang. "When you, for example, are vomiting, and you're so intoxicated when you're vomiting, you are unable to swallow very well because of an overwhelming alcohol."

According to Dr. Wang, anyone can get sudden alcohol poisoning. It just depends on an individual's body.

"Some people who are perhaps not used to drinking much, takes a little bit. I think we all know that somebody who has a skinny body versus a more bigger body might take a little less versus somebody bigger. So, it's individual basis," he said.

The Caipa family is out of town but provided the following statement:

"As parents, we have always taken an active role in Brady's life to help keep him safe. We've asked questions, screened his friends, coordinated with other parents, and done our best to influence our children's decisions and behaviors. Needless to say, we are shocked and horrified by the medical examiner's report. While we are relieved to finally know what caused Brady's death, the circumstances surrounding that evening are still very cloudy, distressing, and causing us extreme anxiety. We want to thank the coroner's office and the Henderson Police Department for their diligence in the investigation, and because Brady was an organ donor, we do find some comfort in knowing that his organs may have helped save other lives."

Henderson Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Caipa's death.

An account has been established in Brady's honor, should anyone wish to support the family during this painful time. You can donate to the account at any Chase Bank. The account number is 989916234.
