Brothers Sentenced in Basic High Teacher's Killing

LAS VEGAS -- The two brothers who strangled a popular Basic High School music teacher in 2008 were sentenced to prison Tuesday.

Judge Valorie Vega sentenced Jose Delatorre, 22, to 18 years to life in prison and Juan Aguirre, 21, to 13 to 25 years in prison. Both men pleaded guilty in October to the charges of second-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy in the death of 32-year-old Matthew Cox.

At the time of Cox's killing, Delatorre was 18 years old and Aguirre was 17. Cox was found dead in his Henderson home near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road.
