Henderson brush fire torches 13 acres and is now out

LAS VEGAS - Henderson Firefighters worked to put out a brush fire in Henderson Monday.

The fire occurred in the area of E. Galleria Drive and Weston Ridge Street. The fire, which appears to be a medium size fire, started around 5:50 p.m.

Kathleen Richards of the Henderson Fire Department says, "BLM's strategy when they got here was to actually create more of a fire, light some of that underbrush to light some of that off so that when they do put water on the fire, then that fire will go out much easier."

BLM firefighters say a total of 13.5 acres of land were impacted. The fire is totally out.
