Cause of Medical Building Fire Determined to be Accidental

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County fire investigators have ruled the cause of the two-story medical building fire near Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn accidental due to an electrical issue.

The fire started around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday in the building at 3025 S. Maryland Parkway, across the street from Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. Employees of the building reported they smelled smoke when they arrived for work and were able to self-evacuate.

Approximately 50 firefighters responded to the scene. Flames and black smoke billowed from the roof and the middle of the roof collapsed causing the flames to leap higher.

Quest Diagnostics, Southern Nevada Medical Group, West Coast Imaging and Sunrise Pediatrics are some of the practices in the building. Clark County officials say the businesses will be displaced for an undetermined amount of time due to fire, smoke and water damage.

There were no reported injuries. Damage is estimated at $1 million.
