CCSD Board of Trustees review guidelines for teachers

LAS VEGAS - The Clark County School District Board of Trustees held a special meeting Wednesday to go over new guidelines to end inappropriate teacher-student relationships.

The school district has been working on the guidelines since April. They want to get them approved by the board and implemented before the new school year.

Not much of the social media policy was discussed because most of that was already solidified.

As it's written, the policy prevents workers from talking with students on social media or by text between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 am.

Teachers also can't have individual communication online with students.

The main portion of the discussion surrounded a new law that requires background checks and fingerprints every five years from anyone who has contact with students.

That would include PTA members, parents and volunteers.

Trustees brought up they're concerns saying the process could be costly and turn people away from helping out.

No voting happened Wednesday, but could at next week's meeting.
