CCSD Superintendent Starts Anti-Bullying Task Force

LAS VEGAS -- The superintendent of Clark County Schools says the district has a new weapon against bullying.

Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky created an internal task force to look at how the school district can stop students from being victimized.

The task force will look at the district's policies and current state laws to see what changes can be made to better protect students. It will also look at whether schools are following current rules and make recommendations on how schools can better implement the intent of the anti-bullying policies.

Retired associated superintendent Billie Rayford will head up the task force. It will include principals, teachers, nurses and counselors from all levels of the education system from elementary to high school.

The initiative was organized after the district received sharp criticism from the father of 13-year-old Hailee Lamberth who committed suicide last year, reportedly over bullying.

Jason Lamberth spoke at Thursday night's school board meeting. He told the board that the district had a report that Lamberth was bullied but the district did not tell the family.

Lamberth has been asked to talk to the task force about the issue.

The task force's first meeting is set for next week.
