CCSD volunteer volleyball coach accused of having sex with student

LAS VEGAS - A Las Vegas high school volleyball coach is facing charges of kidnapping and sexual misconduct for allegedly having sex with a student.

Brian Theophil, 23, who was helping as an assistant coach volunteering at Silverado High School told police he had sex with a female student after developing a friendship, according to his arrest report.

Theophil took the girl out for frozen yogurt. Her father was aware of this outing. On another occasion, the two went to eat at a Panera Bread restaurant and kissed after that outing, the report said.

On their third outing, they went to Canes, picked up food and went to Theophil's parents home. He said, that's where things escalated.

He told police, "It's not technically illegal, but I shouldn't do it."

Theophil was acting as a volunteer coach until his background paperwork cleared with the school district. His volunteering had begun in August. The incident with the girl took place in September.

Rumors at the school led to a coach asking Theophil some questions. Theophil admitted to that coach he had sex with the student, the report said. It was at that point police were contacted.

Police also spoke with the teen girl who admitted to the sexual relationship.

According to the arrest report, the data collected from the cell phones of the girl and Theophil shows an "initial grooming stage and a progressive inappropriate relationship."
