Charleston reopens to traffic following crash

LAS VEGAS - Charleston Boulevard reopened shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday.  A four-car crash closed westbound Charleston Boulevard and all but one lane of eastbound Charleston at Maryland Parkway for a couple of hours.

According to Metro Police, officers were attempting to stop a vehicle being driven erratically near Charleston and Las Vegas Boulevard. The driver refused to stop and at one point was driving in the wrong direction on Bonneville Avenue.

Metro officers used a Precision Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver in an attempt to stop the vehicle, but it was unsuccessful.

The driver ended up colliding with three other vehicles and a light pole in the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Charleston Boulevard.

Citizens are being advised to avoid the area due to the damaged light pole and debris from the cars.

The driver was taken into custody. There is no information on charges yet.
