Chicago beats Mountain Ridge 7-5

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- After making Nevada history, the Mountain Ridge Little League team fell to Chicago Saturday, with the final score 7-5.

It was quite a story that unfolded in Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the last nine days as the team from Las Vegas accomplished one win after another making it to the championship game.

Before some of the parents of team players had even settled into their seats, Las Vegas shot into the lead with a three-run double by Drew LasPaluto.

"That was a big momentum changer and it was great for him, his confidence, and I'm sure he'll take that moment for the rest of his life and share it with his family and friends," said Ashton Cave, Mountain Ridge manager.

But the excitement evaporated, as did the lead. Chicago tied the score at 3 with the help of a two-run home run. Chicago was ahead 4-3 in the fifth when Brad Stone turned and delivered a two-run home run.

Mountain Ridge took a 5-4 lead, but the Nevada kids couldn't hold the lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Great Lakes would score three runs.

Nevada had a chance with two on, one out until a double-play ended it. Mountain Ridge out-hit Great Lakes but Chicago won the game 7-5 to claim the U.S. title.

"Each and every pitch mattered in today's game. Everything mattered," said Darold Butler, Great Lakes coach.

"I'm glad that we didn't lose to a bad team. They're a good team. They're talented and that's what they are made to do, win." said Josh Zuehisdorff, Mountain Ridge infielder.

The Mountain Ridge team plays one more game, just for fun. It's a consolation game. Mountain Ridge will take on Japan at 7 a.m. PDT in Williamsport.
