Child Attacked, Injured by Pitbull

LAS VEGAS -- A 7-year-old boy suffered a severe leg injury after being attacked by a pit bull Friday evening, Metro police said.

The attack happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. at the Sierra Sunrise Apartments on the east side of the valley. The boy was transported to University Medical Center.

According to police, the child suffered a severe bite on his calf. The injury is not considered life-threatening but may require surgery, police said.

According to neighbors, someone shot the dog twice. The dog did survive and was taken from the scene by Animal Control officers.

It is unclear if the dog belonged to the boy's family or a neighbor.
