Christmas Tree Recycling Program Offered

LAS VEGAS -- The Springs Preserve and the Christmas Tree Recycling Committee are teaming up to offer the community places to recycle their Christmas trees this year.

The goal for the past 10 years has been to keep Southern Nevada's local landfills Christmas tree free. Recycling the tree helps ensure sustainability for the community by saving valuable landfill space. When chipped into mulch, cut trees become valuable organic material used in landscaping projects that help conserve soil moisture and keep plants healthy.

Before dropping of a tree, they ask you remove all non-organic objects such as lights, wire, tinsel, ornaments, and nails. Foreign objects can contaminate the mulch and ruin the chipper. Flocked trees cannot be recycled. Trees will be accepted at 20 drop sites until Jan. 15.

For a complete list of drop sites in the area click here. For more information on having your tree picked-up for a fee you can call 1-800-GOT-JUNK 24 hours a day to schedule a pick up. The fee, which is $30, includes removal of tree and clean-up of pine needles.
