City council lays out zoning rules for dispensaries

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas City Council outlined rules Wednesday for medical marijuana businesses.

Medical marijuana facilities are allowed to be operated 1,000 feet from schools and 300 feet from parks, community centers or churches in the City of Las Vegas.

In addition, the council said dispensaries don't have to be in "stand-alone" structures, meaning they can be in complexes, like a strip mall.

The council also voted Wednesday evening to allow dispensaries in city limits on Las Vegas Boulevard and on Fremont Street, but east of 8th Street.
