City gets money to preserve Huntridge Theater

LAS VEGAS -- The Las Vegas Centennial Commission voted to give the city of Las Vegas a $1 million grant for the preservation of the historic Huntridge Theater.

The city council must now vote on the issue.

Supporters of the effort have been trying for several months to get money to preserve the theater, which has been a beloved landmark in downtown Las Vegas for several years. It has been in disrepair since it closed in 2004.

At one time, the Huntridge Theatre was the valley's premier movie theater and hosted several concerts.
