Clark County Courts Dubbed 'Judicial Hellhole'

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County courts are once again being dubbed as a "judicial hellhole" by a national group.

The American Tort Reform Association accuses the courts of favoring personal injury clients. It's placed Clark County on it's list five times. This is the first year Clark County has not made the top 10.

The report cites the $500 billion verdict against two health insurers for the massive hepatitis C outbreak. Local juries have awarded more than $1 billion in judgements connected to the outbreak over the last couple of years.

As the I-Team has reported, the personal injury attorneys who sued had donated large amounts to the campaign of the judge who heard the cases.

The report also highlights the state attorney general's use of a D.C. law firm to put together a case against a local mortgage lender. The firm was a donor to Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto's campaign. The Nevada State Supreme Court has yet to weigh in on that case.

The American Tort Reform Association advocates for laws limiting awards in class action lawsuits.
