Classes at Somerset Academy NLV canceled Thursday, Friday due to virus

NORTH LAS VEGAS - Classes at Somerset Academy North Las Vegas have been canceled for Thursday and Friday due to the continuation of a gastrointestinal virus that has kept numerous children out of school since April 26.

The school is located on Centennial Parkway.

On Tuesday, representatives of the school, the Somerset R.N., and agents from the Southern Nevada Health District met regarding the virus and decided, "even though the number of students/families reporting symptoms has declined, we are concerned about preventing further illnesses," a note sent home to parents Tuesday night read.

The letter went on to say, "to date, SNLV has taken every possible precaution (in coordination with SNHD) to prevent the transmission of the virus at school. Unfortunately, students are still being sent to school with symptoms and within 24 hours of having symptoms. This puts other individuals at risk. The next option we will be taking is to cancel classes this Thursday and Friday, allowing for a four-day removal from the campus. These four consecutive days are especially important because they will allow for any potentially exposed students to go through the entire incubation process and return to school on Monday, May 8th."

All school-related events, clubs, athletics, competitions, performances, etc. have also been canceled and postponed.
