Construction to begin on Vegas Trade Village

NORTH LAS VEGAS - The city of North Las Vegas will soon be home to a multi-million dollar development for international trade.

Construction begins Wednesday on the Vegas Trade Village going up on the northeast corner of Cheyenne Avenue and Commerce Street. The $100 million project is a first of its kind in the Las Vegas valley.

It aims to take a piece of vacant desert and transform it into an international marketplace. The vacant lot doesn't look like much but city leaders hope to transform it into what is described as a one-stop shop for manufacturers from around the world where they can show their goods. People will be able to shop, eat, relax and meet all in one location.

"This will allow us to expand our gaming, tourism and hospitality now into this type of venue where we're actually moving product through our city. It will allow manufacturers to come here and manufacture their products, use this facility and people can come here all year long and have many conventions here and many trade shows. We're excited about it," said North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee.

The project includes 264 units that will function as both a living space and showroom for goods as well as a 20,000 square foot convention center, 120-room hotel, bank, shops and restaurants.

"North Las Vegas has made a big effort to invite the world to North Las Vegas and so this is one project that's come out of China along with Faraday that we'll been pulling forth so the world wants to do business with America and America and the world want to be part of Las Vegas so we're glad to be a part of the whole system," Mayor Lee said.

Groundbreaking for phase one of this nine phase project is Wednesday morning. The goal is for the first part of the project to be open to the public by the beginning of 2018.
