Cooling stations to open Sunday

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County will be opening cooling stations starting Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for the Las Vegas valley, with temperatures expected to reach at least 107 degrees over the next several days. Monday is expected to be the hottest day with temperatures topping 110 degrees, according to the NWS.

Daytime shelter will be available Sunday through Tuesday at various times and locations.

The following shelters are open to the public every day during the summer.

  • Catholic Charities, 1511 N. Las Vegas Blvd., Las Vegas, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For men
  • The Salvation Army, 31 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. For adults
  • The Shade Tree, 1 W. Owens Ave., North Las Vegas, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For women and children

Anyone may dial 211 from any phone to find the nearest cooling station.
