Coroner IDs Las Vegas Biker Dead after Hitting Tree

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Authorities have identified a 28-year-old motorcyclist who died after driving off the road in Las Vegas and slamming into a palm tree.

Clark County coroner's officials say Las Vegas resident Johnny Jay Hopfe was killed in the crash that happened about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Centennial Center Boulevard south of Azure Drive.

Authorities say Hopfe was riding his 2011 Yamaha R1 northbound on Centennial Center Boulevard when he veered off the right side of the road and hit the tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

This marks the 98th traffic-related death in Las Vegas police jurisdiction so far this year.
