Coroner's Inquest: Several Witnesses Testify

LAS VEGAS -- Several witnesses testified Saturday at the coroner's inquest into the officer involved shooting death of Erik Scott. Scott was shot and killed by police after exiting a Summerlin Costco on July 10.

Judge Tony Abbatangelo spent the first 15 minutes of the day reading questions asked from the audience into the record that he rejected. The first witnesses were shopping at the Costco at the time of the shooting. Both testified they saw Scott reaching into his waistband before the shooting.

Dr. Edward Fishman testified he saw the shooting happen in front of the store. Fishman said officers handcuffed Scott after the shooting. He said he was disturbed that medical attention was not immediately given to Scott and that paramedics took several minutes to arrive.

Another witness, Robert Connolly, said he saw Scott remove a gun in a holster from his waistband. He said he believed he was trying to hand the holstered gun to the officer. A photo of the holstered gun laying on the ground at the scene was shown in court.

Witness Eileen Nelson says she saw Scott get shot, turn and fall with his hands empty. Her husband William said he saw Scott pull the holstered gun out of his waistband and was not attempting to aim it at officers before being shot.

On Friday, jurors heard testimony from Las Vegas police officer William Mosher. Officer Mosher fired the first rounds at Mr. Scott.

Also Friday, several witnesses testified they saw Scott exit the Costco and remove a weapon from his waistband. The District Attorney showed photos from the scene of Scott's weapon laying on the ground still in a holster.

Scott's girlfriend, Samantha Sterner, was scheduled to testify, but a DA investigator says she had not answered the subpoena. Ms. Sterner has not shown up for the proceeding.

The inquest is scheduled to continue on Monday at 10 a.m.
