Could lease agreement issues delay Raiders for 1 year?

LAS VEGAS - Will the Raiders be in Las Vegas in 2020 or 2021?  That's the big question, and it all depends on whether or not NFL owners vote and accept a lease between the Raiders and the Las Vegas Stadium Authority when they meet in Chicago next week.

In the latest draft of the lease agreement, out of the 101 pages, there are only, what's described as a few sticking points to hammer out.

But it's all about timing, meaning any delay in the next week could push back the team's move to Las Vegas by an entire year.

"I think we have a very good shot at getting that done in that period of time, said Steve Hill, chairman, Las Vegas Stadium Authority.  "We have a couple of open issues, a couple of things that we're checking in the lease."

So what's the holdup?

There are apparently a few "technical issues" being hammered out.  The technical issues consist of insurance coverage amounts, and a clause about prohibited uses of the facility.

For example, will some form gaming be allowed on the site?

Hill says those issues will be addressed in time for Thursday vote.  And if the board has issues with the lease terms or if it's still not done, they could vote on it again a week from Monday, the same day the NFL spring meetings begin.

Raiders President Marc Badain told 8 News NOW Sports Director Chris Maathuis that he hoped to submit the lease by May 23, so that leaves two chances for the Stadium Authority Board to accept the lease with a day to spare.

So, now the question of whether the NFL plans to hold up the team from moving to Las Vegas for a year lingers.
