CPS investigated family of boy allegedly beaten to death

LAS VEGAS - The family of a 3-year-old boy who died on Friday had three previous contacts with Child Protective Services.

Brandon Nicholson was arrested Friday and is facing charges in the alleged beating death of his son Dominick Degraffenreid.

According to the Clark County Department of Family Services, CPS visited the family's home on the following dates:

  • 1/14/2016 - A report was received alleging neglect. Upon conclusion of the requisite investigation, the allegations were found unsubstantiated.
  • 4/27/2016 - A report was received alleging neglect. A referral, dated 5/23/2016 was also received during the course of the open case and was coded "Information Only." Upon conclusion of a requisite investigation, one allegation was found substantiated. The family was provided with appropriate referrals to community resources and the case was closed.
  • 7/17/2016 - A report was received alleging neglect. Upon conclusion of a requisite investigation, the allegations were found unsubstantiated.

The report does not disclose the parent or the child who was the subject of the investigations.

Nicholson's arrest report revealed that the toddler had bruises and lacerations all over his body. Nicholson admitted to police, he would discipline his son as many as seven times a week.
