The Culinary Union says there could be mass arrests near the Las Vegas Strip as workers plan a protest outside the Palace Station hotel-casino Friday evening.

The labor group representing 57,000 Las Vegas casino workers said the protest is expected to begin at 5 p.m. with hundreds of Culinary members and community supporters.

Culinary Union said in a statement Thursday that there will be nonviolent civil disobedience and arrests likely because the Las Vegas police department denied their permit request for the demonstration.

The police agency couldn't immediately be reached for comment.  Nevada's largest labor group has been in a long-running dispute with the Station Casinos company to unionize their workers.

The company said Culinary aggressively harasses their employees to unionize, but the workers haven't done so.
