Police arrest man accused of killing woman in apartment

LAS VEGAS - Police say they've arrested a 50-year-old man who is accused of killing a woman in her apartment in the central valley.

50-year-old Johnny Hopkins faces charges of open murder, kidnapping, and robbery.

Hopkins appears to have beaten the woman at the apartment on H Street near Owens on Saturday morning, according to investigators with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

At 2:05 p.m. police received a call from a man saying he had information about a possible murder, said Lt. Grant Roger of LVMPD.

Officers went to the apartment complex on H Street near Owens Avenue to investigate and discovered the woman's body, Lt. Rogers said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the course of the investigation, detectives named Hopkins as the murder suspect.

At 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, patrol officers found Hopkins at 7th Street and Bridger Avenue and took him into custody. Hopkins is now at the Clark County Detention Center.

This is the 40th homicide investigation for LVMPD of 2017.
