Domestic disturbance results in officer-involved shooting

LAS VEGAS - One man is dead and another person is in the hospital after an altercation, which led to an officer-involved shooting.

It happened at Pyle Avenue and Pollock Drive near Silverado Ranch.

On Saturday night around 5:30, police responded to reports of a man strangling a woman with a small child nearby at a gas station. When Metro arrived, the male and female were struggling. The male pulled out a handgun, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

One of the officers, Officer David Nesheiwat, then fired four times, striking the man. He was rushed to University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The female also suffered a gunshot wound. She was transported to UMC as well where she is stable. At this time, it is not known whether the suspect shot the woman or if it was an officer's round that struck her. The child was not injured.

Officer Nesheiwat is 33 years of age and has been employed with the LVMPD since July, 2006. Officer Nesheiwat is assigned to the South Central Area Command, Community Policing Division. He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.

This is the 21st officer-involved shooting in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
