Driver arrested for DUI in deadly U.S. 95 crash

LAS VEGAS -- The man involved in a deadly crash on U.S. 95 at Summerlin Parkway Monday night is under arrest on charges of driving under the influence.

Nevada Highway Patrol arrested 22-year-old Gary Richard Adair, Jr. for DUI - drugs with death , failure to drive in a travel lane, expired license plates, altered plates, and no proof of insurance.

The crash happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. Monday night on the U.S. 95 southbound ramp to Summerlin Parkway.

The victim, 38-year-old Kadar Lee Brown of Las Vegas, was changing a tire on the side of the road, when Adair hit him, troopers said.

NHP first reported Adair had a diabetic episode prior to the crash, which troopers initially say caused the accident.

According to the declaration of arrest released Wednesday, Adair told troopers that he had taken pain killers and anti-depressants including Xanax, Percocet and Oxycodone that day. He also told them that he had used heroin intravenously.

The arresting trooper says Adair failed a field sobriety test.
