Driving You Crazy: Car pool lane violators

LAS VEGAS - A valley driver says she sees cars speeding in and illegally using HOV or car pool lanes every day. She says she sees officers target other traffic violators, but not the ones in the car pool lanes.

Nevada Highway Patrol troopers say one of their main goals is to prevent people from getting hurt or dying on Nevada roads.

Drivers are likely to get pulled over for speeding or driving recklessly. The speed limit for HOV lanes and regular lanes is 65 mph. NHP says troopers do watch for speeding in HOV lanes.

As for drivers who illegally use car pool lanes, NHP says it's difficult to enforce passenger requirements, because drivers can tint the windows of their cars, making it harder for troopers to see inside.

A high-occupancy vehicle is a vehicle with more than one human occupant. Motorcyclists, buses and any approved vehicles can also use the lanes, regardless of the number of passengers.

HOV hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Outside these hours, HOV lanes can be used as normal lanes by drivers.
