Driving You Crazy: Illegal u-turns and cell phone use

LAS VEGAS - A viewer says she is upset with fellow Las Vegas drivers who continue to use their cell phones while driving and/or motorists who make illegal u-turns and endanger motorcycle riders.

Metro Police Lt. Leonard Marshall says the latter are difficult infractions to enforce. He says illegal u-turns aren't usually an issue with regard to motorcycle deaths. When motorcyclists are hit, it often happens when the left-turner starts driving into the path of the motorcycle.

Metro statistics show there is a significant number of motorcyclists who drive aggressively and actually cause accidents.

In a recent incident, a motorcyclist was stopped by police for no registration. The motorcyclist fled from the officer at a high speed, lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

As for texting while driving, it continues to remain a focal point with Metro. Last year, Metro handed out nearly 10,000 tickets to people who texted while driving.
