Driving You Crazy: Narrow Road Near Carnegie & Horizon Ridge

HENDERSON, Nev. - A viewer wants to know why Henderson officials don't construct a two-lane road at Horizon Ridge Parkway and Carnegie Drive where traffic is often congested.

When turning from Horizon Ridge on to northbound Carnegie, the road goes from two lanes to one large lane and then back to two lanes.

Unfortunately, officials can't approve a two-lane road. The problem involves an undeveloped parcel of land on the east side of Carnegie Road. The land sits between a residential area full of homes and apartments to the north and a commercial property to the south.

Carnegie Road is currently at its maximum possible width of pavement. This is due to constraints on right-of-way and topography.

That leaves the City of Henderson in a waiting game to conduct any improvements. They will not be able to widen the road to a consistent two lanes until that parcel is developed by land owners.

Until then, there is signage warning motorists to merge into one lane at the narrow section before the road reopens to two lanes. Drivers are urged to drive slowly through this area.
