Driving You Crazy: School zone speeding

LAS VEGAS - A viewer says he is concerned drivers are ignoring school zone speed limits near Spring Valley High School. He says police aren't doing enough to stop the speeders.

Traffic8 contacted Metro Police regarding enforcement, especially since the school year is starting soon. Metro representatives say they frequently receive these complaints, so they are aware of the issue.

The bicycle police, however, are understaffed. A bigger police presence would help prevent speeding, but Metro says budgeting issues are hindering that effort. A representative from Metro Police who could discuss the budget issues in greater detail was unavailable for comment.

Aside from budget problems, bicycle police also have limited jurisdiction; they can only conduct proactive traffic enforcement on streets that are adjacent to schools.

The school year starts August 25.
